Travel agencies in the Hawaiian Islands are offering flights to anyone who needs a break from the city life.
But it may not be a place you would want to be for a while.
Hawaii’s Pacific travel agency, Pacific Travel, says it will not take reservations for a few days on the island of Oahu, after the city closed for the summer due to the wildfires.
“The last few days have been very tough, but I think we’re all going to be OK,” said director Paul Dang.
Pacific Travel has canceled all bookings on the islands after a citywide curfew ended on Sunday.
The island of Kauai was evacuated, but all flights have been diverted to Oahu.
A few dozen flights were canceled on Monday and Tuesday.
Oahu was closed to the public on Monday due to a tropical storm warning.
For many, that means they have no way of getting home to Hawaii until the end of the week, said Ryan Daley, director of communications for Pacific Travel.
On Tuesday, Dang said the company is offering two days of flights to Kauai and Maui.
In addition, Pacific said it would cancel all bookers’ reservations on the Kīlauea Visitor Center on the main island.
Travel agencies are offering a variety of ways to stay safe on the Hawaiian island.
Some hotels are accepting hotel reservations for one day only, according to Pacific Travel’s Dang, who said he would like to see that continue through the week.
However, he added that he would not want people to cancel their hotel reservations and start traveling at once.
Other travel agencies have also canceled bookings, and Dang hopes to see more hotels offering travel at the beginning of the year.
He said the hotel industry has been in a state of emergency for the past couple of weeks.
In Honolulu, many hotel rooms are full and there are no hotel rooms available for rent, according the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Even so, the hotel lobby is filled with people looking for a place to stay, said hotel manager Michael C. Haughey.
Haughey said there are a lot of things that are going on with the fire, including a mandatory evacuation order and a curfew.
While the city’s curfew was lifted on Tuesday, people are still expected to stay off the streets for a limited period of time.
People are encouraged to stay in their cars, and to not go outside without a mask.
Dang said he will meet with the city manager and the fire marshal to talk about how to deal with the situation.
One thing he will not be doing is canceling all bookable reservations, Dung said.
You need to be prepared.
