Dubai’s travel agency business has been growing rapidly in recent years.
The number of companies offering travel services in the Gulf emirate jumped from 515 in 2017 to 1,020 in 2018, according to figures published by the Dubai Travel Agency (DTAs) on Monday.
“Dubai’s market is booming, and we are already seeing a significant rise in demand for travel agencies,” said a spokesperson for DTAs.
“In 2018, we had a record opening of 2,818 agency seats for our clients to book and take out travel.
That’s more than doubling from the previous year, which saw 2,250 seats open.”
The DTAs spokesperson added that this was the biggest increase in the country’s travel sector since the year 2000, when the number of flights to and from Dubai fell by 50%.
The DTA also noted that its clients had recently booked more than 40% of their trips for next year, with a target of 40% by 2020.
“These numbers are an indication of our clients’ interest in our services and demand for them is still strong,” said the spokesperson.
While the DTAs main focus is on Dubai’s international markets, it has also expanded to include its domestic markets.
“We have seen a surge in domestic and regional travel as well, which is another reason why we have continued to expand our service range,” said DTAs CEO, Samir Al Shariha.
“Our new clients are coming from many different countries and cultures, which makes us feel more connected to our customers.
We also believe in the need to expand in the Middle East and Africa.
We have already added several regional and international destinations in the past year, and more are on the way.”
Dubai Travel Agency is one of the fastest growing Dubai travel agencies, according the DTA’s figures.
Its clients can book tickets, accommodation and meals, as well as a range of other services.
