Thais travel agency Minthong offers its clients “a lot of flexibility” when it comes to their business and budgeting decisions.
This flexibility comes with a certain amount of risk for many of them.
She offers an online budgeting tool for businesses looking to navigate the country’s complicated system of taxes and taxes-related fees. “
says Daphne Lee, an international business consultant based in Bangkok.
She offers an online budgeting tool for businesses looking to navigate the country’s complicated system of taxes and taxes-related fees.
The budgeting site, which has more than 2 million users, offers a handy dashboard that allows businesses to track their expenses and track the amount they’re owed in taxes and other fees.
But the tool’s popularity can also make it easy for clients to fall into a trap of thinking their Thai agency will make them a millionaire. “
This is the best place to start,” Lee says.
But the tool’s popularity can also make it easy for clients to fall into a trap of thinking their Thai agency will make them a millionaire.
“It’s not the case.
It’s a good way to see the revenue potential and to be able to evaluate what kind of revenue potential there is,” Lee adds.
She advises clients to always double-check with their agency to see if it’s really a good fit for them.
For many, the Thai agency that has the best bang for their buck can be their travel agency of choice.
But even agencies that have high rankings can still be vulnerable to scams, according to an online forum of Thai travel agencies.
“The big issue with agencies in Thailand is that the people who work for them are not professional, and they are just following the money,” says Senthit Rajaratnam, an American-Thai who runs the website Travel-Agencies.com.
“So if they say that they are a well-known agency, that they do this for a living, then you can assume that they’re not trustworthy and they should be trusted.”
It’s not just Thai clients who can be the victims of these scams.
In January 2018, two young men from South Korea were arrested for attempting to rob a Thai tourist agency of more than $5,000 after posing as a customer.
The men were wearing fake ID’s, and one of them had a large handgun tucked in his pants, according the Bangkok Post.
The two were charged with armed robbery and robbery with a firearm.
“I’m still surprised by the fact that they were able to get away with this,” says Kwan Jung-young, who runs an online travel agency in Bangkok and specializes in helping travelers navigate the complicated tax system.
“These types of people will usually be able and willing to do whatever they can to get what they want, especially when there are no other options.”
It could be easy for tourists to fall prey to these types of scams, but it’s not always that simple.
Many people don’t realize the risks that come with being a tourist.
In 2017, an article in The New York Times described a British man who tried to sell himself as a guide in Thailand for $2,000 per hour.
The article detailed how the man had been living in a cabin with an air mattress in a resort in Thailand, with the air mattress covering the sleeping quarters.
The hotel room had a shower, a bathtub, and a bed, but none of the amenities were in the hotel.
The man also had a cell phone that he used to call for help whenever he was stranded in the jungle.
“You’re in a hotel room with no food or water, no electricity, no phone, no toilet, no bed,” he wrote in the article.
“That’s just not normal.”
The man was eventually charged with “exploiting a hotel employee” for the sake of his own personal gain.
In 2018, a man from South Africa tried to lure a man to a Thai hotel room for sex in exchange for money.
In the article, the man described how the woman was willing to meet with him, but when he showed up at the hotel, the woman started to panic and started to run away.
“We can be like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t go on this trip anymore, can I?'” the man told the New York Post.
“When you get to the hotel room, there’s a guy who has his hands in his pockets, and he’s just holding a knife.”
The woman was also left traumatized.
“She felt like she was going to lose it,” he told the newspaper.
“Her face was just raw.
It was like she had no control over her body.”
According to the article the man was able to convince the woman to leave the hotel with him after telling her she’d make the money back on the trip if she agreed to give him a lift home.
“As long as I’m with her, she’s happy,” he said
